Creators of the WCry virus earned as much as...3.5 bitcoins
Ransomware hackers who launched the WannaCry virus earned 3.5 bitcoins, which was equivalent to just over $6,000, informs Meduza.
Based on the Kaspersky Lab report, the periodical analyzed the transactions associated with wallets, which the virus demanded to pay money to unlock them.
It turned out that on May 12, three wallets indicated by the criminals were receiving funds equal to the amount of 0.17 BTC ($300). This is the amount that hackers asked for to unlock files.
Among other things, WannaCry has blocked at least 45,000 computers in more than 70 countries, two-thirds of them accounted for the Russian Federation. According to unofficial data, the network of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the Investigative Committee also suffered from the virus.
